Magna International Unveils Next-Generation 800V eDrive System at CES 2024

On January 9, 2024, at CES 2024 in Las Vegas, Magna International unveiled its next-generation 800V eDrive system, setting new benchmarks in efficiency, power-to-weight ratio, and torque density. This advanced system is designed to enhance electric vehicle (EV) performance while promoting sustainability. Magna's 800V eDrive offers a highly efficient primary or complementary drive for battery electric vehicles in the C, D, and E segments. It incorporates advanced technologies to reduce weight and size compared to previous generations.

Key Features:

• Compact and Lightweight Design: The eDrive system weighs 75 kg and is 20% shorter in height compared to Magna's previous generation, facilitating easier integration into various vehicle architectures.

• Innovative Rotation Capability: A notable industry-first feature allows the eDrive to rotate 90 degrees around its drive axis, offering improved system integration in both front and rear vehicle spaces.

• High Efficiency: The system achieves up to 93% efficiency in real-world driving conditions, including WLTC and highway scenarios, enhancing vehicle range and performance.

• Sustainable Production: By reducing the use of aluminum and heavy rare earth materials, the eDrive's production results in approximately 20% lower CO₂ emissions compared to previous models.

Performance Specifications:

• Peak Power: 250 kW

• Peak Axle Torque: 5,000 Nm

The eDrive system's versatility allows it to function as a primary or complementary secondary drive solution for vehicles in the C, D, and E segments. An optional eDecoupling unit is available to further optimize efficiency.
