Nokia Opens First Innovation Center in Africa and Middle East, Boosting Morocco's Role in Digital Transformation

Located in Salé, a city adjacent to Rabat, this cutting-edge facility is equipped with the latest technology across Nokia's full range of network infrastructure, including fixed, IP, and optical networks. The center is not only a showcase of Nokia's technological prowess but also a testament to Moroccan expertise. The infrastructure developed and tested at this center is the product of Moroccan engineers and specialists before it is exported to other markets within the EMEA region (Europe, Middle East, and Africa), according to a press release from Morocco’s Ministry of Digital Transition.

The innovation center is poised to play a pivotal role in advancing 5G technology, nurturing digital skills, and encouraging innovation across the EMEA region. Beyond its role in technology development, it strengthens Nokia’s presence within Morocco’s growing ICT ecosystem by supporting academic initiatives. The center will offer practical training to students from engineering schools and universities, along with certifications for around 500 students over the next three years.

Ghita Mezzour, Morocco’s Minister Delegate for Digital Transition and Administration Reform, attended the inauguration ceremony and highlighted the importance of the center. She stated, "The launch of Nokia's Innovation Center in Morocco highlights our nation's ability to attract leading technology companies and drive innovation on the African continent, leveraging the skills and expertise of Moroccan engineers." Mezzour also noted that the center will solidify Morocco’s status as a regional digital hub within the EMEA region.

The opening of this center aligns with the broader national digitalization efforts under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, who has long advocated for enhanced technical infrastructure to meet the fast-paced growth of the digital economy.

As part of the inauguration, Nokia also gave a presentation on its latest innovations, focusing on technologies designed specifically for major sporting events, particularly football. This reveals a promising direction for how Nokia's innovation could enhance experiences at large-scale events while showcasing Morocco’s growing prominence in the global tech space.
